I am now a believer!
« on: April 18, 2009, 09:18:12 PM »
Went to Carter today to ride with Bikehard and Crash. After getting in the trails i noticed that i was not out of breath like i used to be. I've been hitting hole in the fence for the past month on tuesdays, one saturday and a thursday. WOW....

all i can think if is Gregg saying "man, WTA will greatly improve your cardio" (he also said something about eating a lot of salad or something...lol)

He was right, that 14miles of constant spinning works wonders

I also had some firsts today

Sneaky Snake - cleaned the squeeze between the trees with only a hand on a tree :( and also cleaned the climb out (although it looked easier than the last time i tried....either way, i did it)

1st finger - cleaned for the first time
2nd finger - cleaned it all, except for the exit. that up, left, right always put me off balance and i had to put my hand out AFTER i made it over the roots.
3rd finger - rode all but 1 climb, need to work on that one. i kept stopping to look at the drops, but then again, i havent been there in months.

rode the rest of the trails and was happy that i wasnt gasping for air.

only averaged 7mph, but hey...... my username isn't speedy now is it?

Thanks to bikehard and crash for all of the "dude, you can get that" comments.

Great ride Slowy!  Sometimes all you need is the extra push to get past the "mental" part of it.

No Helmet Wheelies until Triple T is present to watch and learn from the master.

1st finger I kept hitting the switch back too fast and kept getting caught up in it!  Cleaned the 3rd finger like I was riding Morris Bridge!

Next step. On those Tuesday rides, get there earlier do and early lap, before the regular group ride. That way by 8 pm, you will have at least 30 miles in.

Thursday and Sat, do two more laps each, come Sunday ( after several weeks of the above) you will be ready for where ever the club ride is.

Ask Greg, between the two of us last year, I think we provded that plan works well.

It don't hurt to change the eating habits a little as well. ( I don't know if you need to lose weight or not, but I did, 45lb) If you need to lose weight.

If you wanna speed up the process. I got a SS you can buy to ride for a few months, that makes it work  even better/faster.

Congrats on the positive changes.

I am gonna get a bungie cord and pull him around tonight....That should help both of us!!

While WTA doesn't provide the adreniline factor of some of the other places, it will help you in two ways. Your cardio will improve dramatically, and your bike handling skills with improve. Having all of those rooty sections with force you to A. pick good lines B. learn how to absorbthe bumps. It is a lot easier to get past the mental aspect of a difficult trail, if you can breath.

Besides, if you get going fast enough, it is a lot more fun.

Congrats.....I agree with Gregg and Red Rider Pro.   Also a rigid single speed is a great training tool to build up cardio, as well as make you a better rider.  Another idea If you ride Boyette is to hit the Quads after you ride all the main ones.  Sounds like the mentioned program will make you a lean mean biking machine.  Keep it up, and once again congrats.

i'm not feeling the rigid 29'er craze.
if anyone would like to donate one to me so i can become Mr. SWAMP 2011, please PM me.

as far as building cardio... i can just leave my current bike's gears alone and not shift to higher gears when the rollin gets easy.

Gears are good..You have them on your car...they must be there for a reason. Keep you legs spinning at all times. Shifting helps maintain your cadence.
