MAX G's, Etc...
« on: May 01, 2009, 02:55:14 PM »
Jeff has been working at Boyette getting some of the new stuff built and reworked along with Wes. The new Corkscrew works much better with the higher bank angle and higher top, needing to brake only slightly to complete the turn. The trail is open.

Jeff also tested the new Ridgeline entrance and it is good to go as well. Just needs to be ridden some, to pack the dark dirt.  Wes and crew tamped stone into it so it hopefully packs in nice and hard.  The sandy curve behind the Super Crapper in the parking lot also had stone worked in as well as a couple of spots in SST.

The MaxGs is holding up well under a lot of traffic. On the uphill, there is some foot jabs from those fools who brake on the way down, but it doesn’t seem to be a problem as of yet. The clay and rain solved the problem.

The Plunge is very fast. When you reach the climb’s top, you must brake quite a lot if you're going to fast. There is indications that someone was too fast and went over the top and down into the bush.

Where is the new entrance located?
I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.

It was moved just a little farther down to where the "Practice Loop" exits at.

Um...uh... Yea, I went up and over on the plunge. I've been down it before but I thought I remembered a bank to help me turn to the right. Memory must have crapped out.

I actually have it on video of me going up and over. It's at the end. If you just want to skip over the shaky parts, fast forward to about 8:30 or so.

Boyette Ridgeline - After building Corkscrew and test riding it eleven times, I am still not satisfied with how it rides. I am looking for opinions of other riders who actually have ridden Corkscrew several times. Did you ride from the top through curve_1 without braking? What is the proper trajectory? Where are the problems with maintaining speed? Is it the surface, or arc degree, or bank height, or bank length, or … What do you think? Thanks. Jeff.

I saw the new corkscrew section on the way in... have no idea how to get to it and wasn't sure if it was open. Didn't want to ride the wrong way on something like that.
Max G's... wow. First time up the other side I got off trail to the right. :-\  Honestly didn't expect THAT much force on the way up and I didn't have my line picked... couldn't correct myself. Took the walk of shame through the rough stuff and tried it again. Off to the left. Corrected too much.  >:(  I'll get it next time.
Also made a pit stop at Lauren's Overlook... because once I learned why we built it, I just have to.

we had no clue how to find corkscrew

If you ride Ridgeline, Corkscrew is after Pepper Ridge and the Plunge. You will see the two high banked, clay turns to the rider's left side. The entrance to Corkscrew is after the entrance to allow repeated riding. The entrance is along the trail about 80' from the exit, also on the left. Corkscrew is OPEN and fun, but there is an unknown technical problem. Thus, I am looking for comments to improve it. Thanks, Jeff.

I must have seen the exit then. I saw some fresh clay and recognized it from the pics. However, there was no organic way to enter it so I knew it wasn't the entrance. Thanks for clearing that up, I'll look for it next time. I can see now how it can be done repeatedly and flow nicely into the rest of the trail.
Is SWAMP going to also provide barf bags at the entrance for out of shapers like me?  ;D
