Does age really matter?
« on: May 10, 2009, 05:02:40 PM »
Was out riding Moonscape Saturday and met up with this guy at the entrance to Doom. We had matching bikes so started talking a bit. He said he hasn't been on Doom in a long time so I told him that it was in really good shape minus the high line around the tree (thinking he'd skip it for sure since I think he was close to twice my age). I head out to Doom and he follows, I hit the high line and once down at the bottom I turn around to see how he makes out with the low line. Noticed he was hauling ass and was saying to myself "no way he's gonna hit it" or at least that wasn't what I wanted to happen since it took me some time to work up to it myself  ;D  jk. Sure enough he flew up and around the tree like he'd done it a hundred times. I was super impressed and showed it, he didn't act like it was that big of a deal.

I will go as far as to say the strongest riders I know are of the older variety, it's good to see some youth out there as I was starting to think Nintendo was the downfall of our nation :D

LOL...most of them still spend WAY too much time playing video games.  And I have to agree with you.  Some of the strongest riders I know are also older than me, and I'm not a spring chicken anymore.

If you eat right and take care of yourself, then you quickly learn, that what you hear about getting older is mostly myth.

I go by the old adage, if you use it, you don't lose it.

Age is only a number.
Trail speed and skills are a result of what you do.How much you ride/train and what you eat.

Maybe at 60 plus you might be slower reagrdless of training... I'll let you know if 10 years.

No, don't think he is doing the high line. Most everything else though. He is inspirational for me. If I can ride half as good at his age ,I will consider my life to be full. That is 30 plus years to go. Pass me the supplements please.

Well, his decision to take the high line was made on the fly far as I could tell. This guy was on a next to new Giant Reign that was black and tan I believe.
