Call me crazy, but here goes anyway. I'll try to say this with the utmost respect that I can, because I know how much work and effort that all of us that do trailwork put in.
When I want to arrange an extra workday, I have enough respect to not go into the sub-forum for Boyette, WTA, or Croom and try hijacking those threads. I start a thread in the Alafia section, and those few of us that are dedicated show. When Alafia workdays were cancelled when there was alot of things we could get done in the interest of dozens in a row of workdays at Boyette, alot of people here held their tongue.
I hear what you're saying. I have tried to stress countless times about hijacking threads and drifting off subject in here and feel perhaps it's just the way it is expected to be. Call me burned out, or perhaps someone else should be monitoring. I am glad to see that it is noticed when it happens.
But I do give, I feel, adequate attention to all four trail systems as they are all highly important to me as a user and one of those in charge of what we all enjoy, no matter how easy or how difficult a trail system may be. There were an assortment of reasons why Alafia workdays were cancelled, not soley becauise of Boyette. As far as dozens in a row at Boyette - that was because of a limited time of authorization to do such work, and little work planned or being done elsewhere. We were able to negotiate more flexible workdays at Boyette and even bought liability insurance to allow us that flexibility. In short, that loosened up the urgency to get done what we needed too - and the biking community benefited from it all.
I just feel it is really disrespectful trying to derail a post like this. We lost alot of workdays last winter and now we (we as in Alafia, I know SWAMP maintains alot of trails) need to make up for it, especially as the erosion from summer comes into play.
No disrespect intended and sorry that it came across that way. I always try to view the big picture, and that is 125 miles of trails to maintain. True, probably should have done a separate post, but I did combine two important trail workdays together.
Sorry, but thats the way I see it, and I feel it needs to be said. If we need to sit down and talk about it, PM, email, face-to-face, whatever, that is fine. I prefer a meeting over beers, I'll buy.
No worries, if it's not said then it's allowed to fester - that's no good. If you want to sit down and throw back a beer or two over it that's fine. At the end of the day 125 miles of some of the best trails in the area that serve a huge populace are in need of upgrading and more people to get involved. If this helps to enlighten more people, then we both have done a good thing.
