Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

you know your own limitations but if you know you have a shot at the podium in the more difficult class go for the harder one.
It's all fun & games until someone gets hurt then it's hillarious

I am working my way up to that - I want to do a longer Xterra race - I am just now swimming good enough to not drown

If you're not going to ride the road bike, then definitely go Fat Tire. Otherwise, I'd do novice. Starting your first OWS with the Clydes/Athenas could be an adventure.

If you want to try some OWS practice, there's a small group of us who meet a couple times per month at Anclote River Park to practice, including swimming into/over each other (occasionally, we even do it on purpose). Tentative next swim there is 6/27 ~7:30AM

PS - I'll be slogging my way through the Xterra on Sunday.

I have a road bike and a MTB - I thought I might be at a disadvantage on a regular road bike compaired to those fast TT bikes

If you can average over 20mph on the road bike, you'll be in the top third. I was 46/281 for the bike split in May with an average speed of 21.2.

I have no idea what my ave speed on a road bike is for 15 miles - without stopping to cross roads and that sort of thing, I think I can go that fast.

FE - Did you have someone working with you on the swimming or did you just go out and teach yourself the proper technique?

if you do the steps - it is easy to get better quickly - you glide through the water way better relaxed
