Fork hitting downtube
« on: July 08, 2009, 11:50:52 AM »
Hi all !  I got my Independent 29er built up but the damping knob barely hits the down tube . I probably need about 1/16 of an inch to clear . Should I just file a little off the edge of the damping knob or is there a spacer I can put under the head tube ?   thanks again in advance guys....brad       p.s. kind of hate to file as the fork is brand new but I will if I have to .

What kind of headset?  I know there are some aftermarket crown races that will space out the fork an additional 4-7mm - http://www.cambriabike.com/shopexd.asp?id=27061&page=VENTANA%20PLUS%20CROWN%20RACE%20FOR%20KING%20HEADSET

Hi all ! Well after much thought I just filed the frame . Titanium files alot easier than I thought . Actually , I think I will see if that headset spacer will work with the cane creek on there . If not I guess I can put a CK on there with the spacer . Or maybe file the knob or just take it off.....hmm  need to think a bit......brad

Usually my fork adjustment knobs just fall off - so just take it off now and save it for later.

I'd file the knob and call it a day.

Hi all !  But hey...I love my clown wheels......OK , wound up filing down the edge of the knob . I will probably just use some blue magic marker to touch it up . Thanks again for all the help . Will post some pics soon .       brad
