High speed head on collision on east meadow today
« on: July 19, 2009, 07:23:06 PM »
Some tough old dude was flying down east meadow trail today and I was going pretty fast myself the opposite way.  Add a blind curve and the results were a trip to the hospital and about $200.00 in damages to my bike.
Although my frame and shock wasnt touched my left ring finger came between his handle bar and my brake lever and took the brunt of the collision. My front rotor was bent , i guess that was from his front tire.
Im a big guy and I know my shoulder met his chest but the old bugger got right back up.
I was on the edge of bonking right before it happened anyway so when I got up I promptly sat back down. I got light headed
As I was braking  the impact hit the front of my finger hard enough to split it to the bone on the oppisite side breaking the brake lever.
I just want to thank the people that stopped to help and got me fixed up enough ( and bandaged ) to limp back to the car.

Man sorry to hear that.  I had the same thing happen to me, at less speed, on the South East trail.  Broke my left finger the same way that I point at *holes with.  The dude was like ah, didn't see you - and rode off.  I shoulder checked the guy pretty good and he stayed upright.  He was fair sized too.

Can't plan for everything.  Dave keeps that trail mowed kind of wide because it is two way.

OUCH!!!!!! I have had my share of head on's out there, but that sounds like a bad one. Heal quickly man.... :)

Never really had a bad head on but for some strange reason I've had two near miss side collisions with TripleT. Seems like whenever we try to pass each other (while talking sh&t of course) we end up coming close to tumbling down the hill together. I imagine TripleT falling 30ft, sustaining a broken arm, and still jumping up to inspect his bike for damage :D

I imagine it the other way around.  YOU falling 30ft, breaking an arm, and jumping up to make sure nobody saw it whilst I stop and inspect my bike for damage.  :D

I don't think Wes would like being called an OLD DUDE. He still kicks Ass for a very experienced rider.

I though I was giving him props in the way I described the incident.  He walked away and I didnt. He was very respectable as he knocked me on my ass as I am sore this morning like I got ran over by a Mack truk

Old Dude, Old Bugger, maybe a little offensive... But hey, you can always use the excuse you did not know what you were saying due to the near concussion Wes gave you :D !
