Hmmm, I guess they had a sale on red clown noses too.   ;D

It was a buy one get one free sale on the clown noses.  The big floppy clown shoes, those had to be purchased seperately.  ;D

Oh no...  FORUM POLICE, please block this thread now.  I warned you!

Why aren't you all mentioning what the article also says.  It said that 6 or 7 of the top 10 positions on the Men's pro cat had 29ers.  Hmmm, I guess they had a sale on red clown noses too...

To each its own I guess.  I love my 24'er!   ;D

they also said the one guy opted to ride the FS 26er because on that course it was better - so it is a matter of what type of course you are racing to which is better - most of us can't afford a 29er and a 26 FS so you have to make a choice

well sure 29er hardtails are faster on a groomed cross country course. I want to see a test on a course that actually has obstacles in it.

did you also hear that crotch rockets are faster than dirt bikes. ::)

Magazines have been trying to kill the 26'er for a few years now. Not everybody drinks the koolaid though.

after reading the article, I think it was just pointing out the fact that what was being ridden and winning races lately. Not that the Hardtail 26er will ever go away as far as retail sales go, but what is starting to dominate the race teams. I think it mostly was dealing with how Full suspension bikes are getting lighter and more practicle for racing and that they are winning races. Hardtail 29ers seem to being doing pretty good on races as well and the GF Super Fly is sure making a case for G2 technology....

one thing to keep in mind - the big bike companies can afford to pay the best riders - so the bike companies are the ones that dictate what bikes win the big races more than anything else

No doubt about it... but these guys are not going to compete and win against others of their level on crappy bikes either... if I want to push a certain bike as a bike company, I want to make sure it has a chance of winning against other racers AND other bikes of the same caliber.

yea - the Pros do tend to like to race on really well groomed courses - for instance this year at the Bump-N-Grind the Pros took out some of the harder sections (blood rock) while the regular classes had to race down blood rock

it's just like pro golfers, they groom the course for months before a tournament and it is never like that any other time. I played a couple (sawgrass, Chevall,) right after a tournament and was blown away how much better shape it was in than normal...
