Opinions on wheelset decision?
« on: July 27, 2009, 01:13:18 PM »
I'm on a Stumpy FSR 29, the army green model, and have narrowed my wheelset options down to a couple choices, wanted some feedback.

Should I go...
Go with MT75 wheelset using the centerlock adapter to fit my bolt on rotors?  Looks like I can get all brand new for less than $500.00

or

do I take the devious route by concealing a grand or more from my wife and buy a Chris King setup?

I suspect CK's are the superior choice but I'm hesitating to pull the trigger on the large investment.  I plan on keeping the bike until some catastrophic failure necessitates replacement.  I'm a fast B/slow A group rider and nobody will ever pay me to ride a bike so the practical side says the MT75's are just fine.  thoughts?

they're still together and doing fine. no systemic shortcomings to really speak of.  Mostly i'm looking into the near future when I'll be doing some traveling into remote terrain and would like to relegate the stock wheels to emergency spares.

You have answered your own question.  If you are looking to upgrade, get the Kings.  You can get a set of King/Arches built with strips and valves for $750 all day.  If you shop around you might do better.  Good luck.
