More on tires??
« on: August 07, 2009, 08:04:39 PM »
I ride a Gary Fisher w/ stock Bontrager Race wheels.  Wheels say they're tubeless, but were stock w/ tubes.  Am I correct in assuming that these will accept UST or non-UST tires, which is probably what the stock Bontrager tires are??  It's time to replace at least the rear tire and all this talk about Maxxis Ignitors has got me leaning that way.

Tires are definitely a personal choice, but I don't think you will be disappointed.  Love mine.  Running front and back (29er).

Ignitors are good tires, you might want to try running them tubless.....you probably won't go back if you do.

I just put the Ignitors on the back of my 29er...Kenda nevgal in front. I will test for the first time tomorrow.
The Nevgal feels very heavy..The ignitor looks just right..

Yeah...+/- 40 ...could be 860!.....I am heavy, who knows they may be just right. When I rode Santos I wished I had more traction. It was wet and I was running my 2.0 Captains.

There are few tires that will give you more traction.

Traction problems with Captains? You may want to take a look at your position on the bike ;)

those bontragers can be converted to tubless with use of their valve stem. the rim will accept any tire. where the tires that came on it "Jones"? if so those tires have a tubeless bead, but a regular tire casing. You will need a sealant (like stans) in them or any other non-UST you mount to the rims.

I disliked my Ignitors.  Don't know that I hated them.

For a tractor tire, I have been really impressed with the Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.25 I put on my bike.  Heavy, but roll pretty well and have not put me in the dirt face first like the Ignitors. (yeah I know, it was probably bad technique, not the tire's fault  :P )

I saw a set of non-eXception Ignitors at AJ's this weekend.  The tread seems decent. Not to aggressive or mild.  My 2.10 WIRE bead Nevegal and 2.10 WIRE bead Blue groove are heavy...  i looked for them on on Kenda's site, doesn't look like they make those tires anymore. If they do it's for a cheap OEM tire and they only sell to the Manufactures. So without weighing my tires, I have no idea exactly what they weigh, or their advertised weight is.
