snapped carbon fibre stem.

Huh?  How did that happen?  I'm not a big fan of carbon fiber mountain bike components (sorry TTT), but a CF stem just seems like a bad idea.

wet with roots spread out close to the wheelbase of your bike in easy gear when rear tire looses traction on a root and spins under power and at the same time front tire stops on another root and all your weight transfers to your handle bar as you try not to endo

Silicone parts are made for toys.... but carbon fiber parts are made for bikes.  Weight winnie bike riders like me anyway.  Carbon fibre has changed drastically over the last 5 years.  Can you imagine what 15 years of improvements have done?

I still have the scar to remind why I don't like carbon fiber.

But sometimes a picture or two is called for...

The doctor that stitched me up - 'Did you see any flesh on the trail after you crashed?  I am having a hard time stiching this up so I may have to call the plastic surgeon'.
