Need a Bike Rack for a Sedan...?
« on: August 16, 2009, 10:02:47 PM »
Hey guys, sold my truck yesterday and now have a 4 door car. Are all these bike racks the same pretty much?  I need to carry two 26" MTB's. Any advice? I've never bought a bike rack for a car before.

well the saris bones does a great job of holding it on there but it will leave some faint scratches.  so If you are worried about scratches get a hitch rack.  If I could go back I would have gotten a hitch rack but at this point I already have some scratches and I'll pay the $200 to repaint the trunk lid when I get rid of the car.

I have had my bones for 5 years. Great rack, they have replaced straps twice and on arm twice. It only leaves marks if you dont keep the car clean. I use this rack 4-6 times a week. Very easy to get on and off and easy to load bikes..... ;)  two thumbs up!

I keep the car clean, and would dust off the area before putting the rack on.  Hitch option is not an option. So I need a High quality, secure, non scratching trunk rack.

lol. yeah... maybe I will change my SN.  I just didn't need that much truck for what I do. MPG's on any truck seem to suck.  And I had no money for Bike parts or other things in life it seemed like. Just couldn't really justify it.  5spd 4cyl Loaded Accord is fitting me pretty dang well thus far. I've never had a Honda, or even thought one day I'd drive one and like it! Life is ironic. I've always been anti honda.  I guess those ricers with Foldgers cans for mufflers and Big Ironing boards for spoilers really turned me off. Mine is bone stock other than legal window tint...and gonna stay that way. If I wanted a fast car, would of bought a Corvette, Trans AM etc. Not a Honda. (other than the S2k).

Honda makes good cars, not SUV/Trucks in the full size scale for Heavy Duty use They are a light duty auto manufacture in my book. Every tool has a purpose. I'm not fond of their IFS/IRS Ridgeline, trying to pass that off as a "full size truck".  BS dude. Wheres the frame, rear axle, and Tcase, locking differential etc. it's a SUT.   But I'm very happy so far with my accord, b/c that's what I was looking for/need.  Now I can afford to splurge on the Bike a bit more.... IE FORKS, Tires, etc.

I have an ultra cheap Bell rack that works just fine on my Accord (2004); Make sure to cover the pedal closest to the car because it will scratch the bumper/trunk lid.

However, I can put two hardtail bikes in the trunk (with the back seat folded down) when the front wheels are off. It takes a bit of careful maneuvering, and when its only one bike its a piece of cake.
