need advice on $1500 bike or a great deal
« on: August 20, 2009, 03:02:26 PM »
Hey guys, I need advice on a full suspension bike for under $1700 or so.  So far, we have looked at the trek fuel 7 and giant trance x3.  Something in the 4-5" travel range.  And if any bike shop guys check this out, this bike is for my cousin.  He has a crappy job and is spending 2 months of income on a bike because he loves it so much.  He gives back, he is at every work day that he can make and picks up trash with me wherever we go.  Please help him out.  Thanks for reading guys.

You need to get him off of your Joker.  It looked like he had been struggling on Sunday.

AJ's had the Spec FSR 29er (No Brain) 09 version on sale in that price range. Check their web site. Not sure if any are left......

I'm stepping out on a limb here but one of my buddies just picked up the higher end one of these

http://ibexbikes.com/Bikes/ASTA-EXP-X9-Details.html

pretty well specd for a 4" travel XC bike.  $1299

I did quit a bit a research on the frame quality and it appears everyone is pretty satisfied.  Geometry is definitely a XC bike but should be perfect for our FL trails.  Frame has a 5 year warranty. Only thing I found that is negative is to buy the upgraded deraileur hanger.

I have no experience with this bike but seems pretty good for the money.

Not trying to be a smart *, but I do have a Turner Sultan frame for sale.  It includes a CK headset, Salsa QR, and Thomson seatpost.  All are in excellent condition.  You should be able to spec the rest for around your budget.  Just a thought.

There ya go, what a sweet rig you could build for around your budget, maybe some Frankenbike parts laying around out there?

Good option on the frame only. I know I have shifters and derailers along with a few other parts available. I am sure we could scrape some parts off of the old Klein. That frame is sweet

I got mine and the gf's New 08 Giant Trance X2's at AJ's for that money out the door. We were in the same boat as your cousin -willing to spend it all on something we love. I did a lot of research and felt great that I got the most bang for the buck for a new bike. No regrets 2 months later either. If they don't have any in the shop -ask Darrin or Dave if they are still available to order from Giant if interested.
