Ok, Now I need a Hitch Rack
« on: August 24, 2009, 09:57:05 PM »
Ok, Got me a Draw-tite no drill 1.25" hitch for my new Accord. So what is a good hitch rack that will carry 2 MTB's? Yakimas is like $200+.

On a side note, it's been a PITA changing vehicles, paper work, tuning up the new used ride and getting it my way.  But it's only been like 9 days and I'm almost done with everything. Kind of nice getting good fuel mileage for a change.  I averaged 29.4 MPG on the first tank, heck the dealer filled it up.  That's before tuning it up and going over it even.  Few weeks from now I should be 100% back to my bike.

Yakima. We spend thousands on MTB's but stick them on $50 bike racks that leave them all banged up and flopping around. One of the best investments I've made was a good bike rack.

I have the same setup as you.  I have an 05 Honda Accord and got the following bike rack from performance bike.  I even got the hitch & bike lock from the Amazon link.  I've had this setup for almost 2 years and it works great.  The setup is very stable and I never worry about my bike back there.  The lock is worth the money.

One thing to note, be very careful when your trunk is open as when I first got the rack I forgot to put the arm down and my bike fell into the trunk and shattered the rear window with the metal ends of my ergo grips :o

I like my thule T2. Holds the bikes nice. Can also lock the rack to the hitch and the bikes to the rack. I spent a lot of money on the bikes so i want them nice and secure.

I have the same rack.  I've been using it about a year and a half.  I'm happy with it.
Does it really matter.  Your bike could be held up with a couple Q-tips and tied down with dental floss.  Isn't it down to 11.5 lbs.  ;D

LOL

Maybe I'll try the Q-Tips and dental floss as a DIY rack.

I used to tie my Rush down with twine, but dental floss and Q-Tips would have me beat  ;D
