Croom Crusher & Crumbler
« on: August 25, 2009, 08:58:51 PM »
Coming up September 26th.  Adventure race includes MTB, trail running/navigation, canoeing, and some other fun tasks.  Crusher is hardcore.  Crumbler is the diet version.  We did the Crumbler last year...it completely kicked our ass but we had a ton of fun.

Anyone game?

I plan on doing it with a friend....I can bike, canoe and orienteer but I cannot run so I am doing it for fun.
I think it is limited to 2 man (women) teams but you can group together and work it as a larger team....

just the crumbler as I have never done this before....

Same here....we walked the running portion.

Be mindful of the trail markings. We were waaaaay off course in the mtb section and the mix up caused us to miss two check points and added at least an hour to our time. Some yahoo ran over some trail markers and a few of us ended up on some super sandy fr that was impossible to ride.

If you watch the video from last year, they let the air out of all the front wheels while everyone was in the boats. Thats pretty funny!

Sounds like fun . I think I'll do some volunteering as the course sweeper.

It looks like they got everyone. If you click the link above Alan provided then click "home" you will see a video that does a good job outlining last years race. It looks like fun.

I guess we lucked out on the flat tire deal.  We did the MTB portion first and ended at the canoes.

Alan...did you do the long format? I have been told that I would be bored with the 2-3 hour format, but based on fitness level I think it would be fun. Definitely looking for a fun morning, not an intense competition at this point!

We did the shorter event (crumbler). It was pretty straight forward with basic orienteering, but it was still challenging and tons of fun. We are doing the crumbler again this year...neither of us are at a level to try the crusher event.

FYI...Today is the cutoff for the cheaper registration fees.

Thanks for the heads up...I just registered! Team "Winey Mothas"

How did you guys do on saturday? We were told we came in 15th overall and 6th for our division.

The course was tough but we had a blast. Hiking the bikes through Hog Island was just plain torture (I slipped, took a cypress knee to the shin, and got a mouthful of *ty swamp water...luckily I saved my bike from becoming completely submerged).

I couldnt race but my team finished 5th in the division and I think 13th overall. They said it was a lot of fun. My wifes bike got submerged ....so they tell me. I had to work...fiscal year end. I had my dates screwed up.
\I'm glad I could find a replacement. I'll be there next year! My friends were toast when I saw them saturday night!
