Florida State Championship Series
« on: September 07, 2009, 10:59:28 PM »
I'm new to MTB racing and planning racing the FSCS. Just wondering if anyone else has raced this series before, from your club, that can maybe give me some insight on what to expect. Thanks!

FSC races are very well organized.  Like someone else said...jack rabbit start.  I imagine the traffic jams depend on which trail system you are racing.  Alafia got tied up in a few spots in the first part of the first lap.  SanFelasco really didn't get tied up at all.

Hailes trail is a conglomeration of everything you have ever ridden condensed down into five miles, Start is very Quadrantsish, transitions into Roller Coaster and finishes in the Vortex :o There are a couple of WIDE open fields, but the single trak its self is not condusive to passing. There is a handful of short, steep, eventfull climbs, a LONG decent and climb out of a quarry mid trail that is pretty cool :) You are going to like this trail 8)

Thanks for the info that helps out alot.

Not sure what class to run, its the first MTB race and i'm not sure what kind of speeds to expect out of the XC-2 and XC-3 classes. Lets say I run 11mph average at Flatwoods for an hour and a half 15-18 miles or 9mph at Alafia for the same time and miles. What class would you suggest ?? Thanks again.

XC racing is awesome! its over before you know it. Haile's Trails were cool - would've been a blast in normal weather. the rain made the climbs real slick and muddy - the nasty kinda mud like on moonscape. lots of hike-a-biking up climbs.

i got 2nd in my class, some 'young punk' beat me by just over a minute . had to sprint to the line with a guy coming up fast behind me! we were split at the end by one hundredth of a second.

i won a box of hammer bars and some new socks! hell yeah
awesome race!!!   ;D ;D ;D
