He has only had the bike for a few months and it was not cracked before as he is a neat freak to the point of installing tire dressing and cleaning with a tooth brush. I suppose it could have had a very tiny start of a crack that the original owner spotted but I imagine he would have just warrantied it since it was purchased new and is barely used. When my friend got it you could barely tell that the bike had been ridden.
He is trying to contact the original owner and if not I'll take it down to Aj's for advice on crash replacement. From what I recall the discount is pretty lame. If nothing will work I'll take it to an ace aluminum welder and see what happens if he keeps both wheels on the ground. He is in the over 40yrs old group so doesn't have much interest in jumping. The three little Vortex drops were calling his name the other weekend though
I know you can't expect to have much luck without proper heat treating but I've heard a few stories about repaired frames that make it another year or longer if not ridden hard.
