« on: May 08, 2010, 04:40:13 PM »

If you don't crash how do you know your limits . . . ?

Nice pics and write up.  Croom is a great trail system.  We have sand to contend with; some states have loose rock with hilly climbs and roots to navigate.  It's all about riding what you have, designing the trails with that in mind, and mastering it.

More pics...more pics .....more pics. ;)

I have yet to do Croom just because I've been told all negative stuff like : ex. "It's not worth the drive",  "The 60 miles of sugar sand is horrible" ect. ect. Maybe they are just exaggerating but they say you hit spots where it feels like a 1/4 mile of riding on the beach.

Thanks Gary . . .  and Hygien sounds like a little exaggerating to me, however if its hot enough and your tired I'm sure it can easily seem that far . . . Most people that rag on it have only been there once and don't know where all the fun spots are. I gurantee its worth the drive, I'm actually moving very soon and a big factor on where I move is my drive time to Croom.

There are some spots that get sandy, even more so in dry spells like we have had the last couple of weeks. But there are MILES of sweet single track too, lots of gradual climbs and even some gnar in the pits. As dirt rider said "it is well worth the drive" just wait for the next good rain ;)

I need to do Croom and Santos soon. I've been ready for a new trail system for a while. I think if I haven't needed to look at a map for ages it's time to start new again.

I was one of those people that used to complain about Croom (not on the forum though).  I had gone up twice with SWAMP and did not see the big deal.  Then I road the Blue Loop after some rain.  Riding the whole Blue Loop when conditions are good (not too dry) is one of the best biking experiences I have ever had.  I have to admit, I won't go unless they have had rain.

There is majic up there in the summertime. Late PM rides right after storms blow thru can lead to awesome rides. Cool temps for Summer and packed trails with noone in sight. What doesnt kill you will make you stronger.
wherever you go.....there you are.
Just a big Hooper!

Dan-O knows the magic. Techy stuff up around blue pit can get sloppy and sticky when wet but the rest of the park is wonderful after a rain. I especially the yellow section north of the bypass right after a rain.

Don't go to Croom. Go to Alafia & Santos. They have coke machines and hot dog vendors.

I'm a big fan of the pits section. Very fun. There a few sandy climbs I really dont like, that just motivates me to get up them faster. Croom has helped me big time with my endurance.
