speedplay handsdown. you don't feel any spring tension holding the cleat.

if he just needs some pedals I've got some look knockoffs, new cleats, and cleat covers I'd let go for real cheap.

Truth is "All one sided roadie pedals SUCK" we just use them so the other roadies don't make fun of us :'( I for one would be happier with some XTR's up in there ;D

I use CB Quattros on my fixed/ss road bike and Candies on my CX bike with MTB style shoes. I'm really happy with the Quattros as a road pedal. They work great and look good too. I'd love to get another pair of Quattros and put those on the CX bike for everything except actual cyclocross.

With the inexpensive availability of super stiff carbon and composite soled shoes I don't see much point in road style pedals unless you really need to shave every possible gram or you really need the better adjustability of the three bolt road cleat.

But I don't do typical road racing much. I commute and do the occasional alleycat so a walkable shoe is a big advantage to me.

They are one sided ;D I am rocking the Looks as well :) Other than that I have no issue with them, positive in and out, just the right amount of float. I got the carbons for less than a C note from CRC.com
