I am gonna try going with a 1x7 setup with some parts off another bike.. I have a 32t and a 34t middle chain ring, so I think I am going to use the 34t. the cassette on the other bike is a 7 speed with 14,16,18,20,22,24,28 cogs. I may end up going to a 36t chain ring later on depending...

I'm loving my 1X9 setup.

Cool. I had to use what I had which is wheels and drive chain from a 1998 Raleigh M-30. it had a 6 speed rear cassette of 11-24 and a 34T middle ring so this turned out to be a 1x6 setup which should still be OK. had to leave all 3 chain rings on the front since it is riveted. I left the front derailuer on as a chain guide but removed the shifter and cable, although I may remove derailuer as it seems to be pretty tight.
