WTA trail conditions?
« on: August 26, 2010, 01:11:41 PM »
I was going to ride the whole WTA MTB loop tomorrow morning. Any idea of how good or bad the the trails are with the recent rains? Should I even bother?

Thanks.

Sigh.  Crickets.

I was hoping for some input, too.  Guess no one has been.  Do I brave it or just wait until I know it'll be better?  I am tired of the mud.

the Trout Creek & Morris bridge side (EXCEPT Indian, Gator Bait, Wash Board, and Far East side of Grandpa) usually stay pretty dry. Heart Break Ridge you may have problems with the bridges getting washed out.  If those trails are bad they get closed. I would avoid the flatwoods side until it drys up as it holds lots of water...

Usually.  It's been unusually rainy lately.  I've seen the main trail under water between 16 and 17.  Clyde,   report back please after you ride.

I rode out there on Sunday, the sections of the trail at Morris Bridge (with the exceptions of indian, gator bait and the east side of granpa) were all ok. Washboard is bad for the first 50 feet or so, HeartBreak Ridge didn't have any issues (I only saw the closed sign on the far end of the trail or else I wouldn't have ridden it).

The center section of the loop was a little wet, the only bad spot was between 36-37 at the top of the loop, it was a lake. If you skip that section and continue down the paved trail, you can continue on without issue down the trail.

Suggest staying away. As of early yesterday, bridges on HB ridge were floating, main trail flooded, inller loop of Flatwoods full of mud and water.

Ride there will just damage trails and bikes, go to Croom meet at parking#1 help Bob's small crew build new trails and ride some.

It was a rough ride. The inner loop of flatwoods is a swamp had to ride the paved section a lot. Some water at morris bridge but the main trail is okay. I won't ride again after these types of rain.

Skip flatwoods - Hit CROOM... New trails need to be ridden in!!! Its sooo nice out there right now, watch the PITS as they were SLICK!!!

Kinda funny looking back as I slide down a hill at under 1 mph and couldn't stop (btw I slide down BACKWARDS) - no I didnt fall (somehow).

If you do hit up Croom look for my hammers as i DROPPED a couple :-)
