The problem as I see it is that the clay cap is not very thick so you can't do a lot of sculpting to create interesting trail features unless you import lots of fill dirt to build it up. As most people here know, removing dirt to expose features is a lot easier than hauling it in. Erosion unless extremely carefully managed would be vastly more problematic than at any other local site. On most of the other trails we can dig in and rework wherever water isn't flowing properly. At Toytown digging in may not be an option. How do you do a bench cut into a hill to make a sustainable trail bed when the soil is only two foot deep?

The lack of trees is pretty brutal as well.

Still, it's a surmountable challenge. I would like to see something happen that isn't another development even if it's not a mountain bike park. Doesn't the Tampa Bay area currently have a massive surplus of never lived in brand new houses that were built during the boom?

There are different ways to avoid erosion and still design a fun trail system.  Digging is not an option, so importing soil and rock to make technical trail features would have to be the trick.  Who knows what will happen after this July.  There is a golf course development group that wants to build ANOTHER golf course here - do we really need another golf course in the Tampa Bay area?

I think when/if the opportunity presents itself people get involved and convince the PCC and City officials that this is the way to go.  Working with the radio control airplane folks so they get to keep what they have too because a project like this always needs friends.

Hey folks -- An update on the Toytown site. The developer backed out, but it's sounding like a German group is looking at the site for a potential solar array.
