Alafia Race - my review
« on: October 24, 2010, 06:54:20 PM »
For being my 1st big race I was excited. I entered Novice class and the anticipation 10 seconds before the whistle was unreal. You could feel the nervous energy in the air as other riders were shaking waiting for the signal. The whilst came and boom we were off! I got caught in a bit of traffic exiting the parking lot and after what seemed like 5 seconds we were flying down the steps on North Creek. Tires buzzing people falling heart rate elevated this was the story of the rest of the course. Lots of fast guys out there today but I kept plugging away until my inner diesel came on-line.

It was great I had a blast. Most painful hour of my life (the good kind of pain). Thanks SWAMP and Goneriding for putting this on. Most of all great job to everyone who raced today!!!

Big thanks for everyone cheering for me!! I was zoned out most of the time but it seemed just as i was feeling tired i gota "GO E GO" , that drove the hammers further into the cleats and propelled me toward the finish line!

btw.. If anyone finds my hammers please return them, I left them somewhere on the race course...

Good job Big-E...  Here is is Ron's video... he caught the base x3 19-29 group crash.  I feel bad for that guy.  Took a bad line on the stair drop and tried to jump back on the line.  Would have been fine if he had not slip again.  Could have been worse...

That guy was being a total douche bag for trying to jump back in like that.

Yeah but thats not just a probem with base there a lot of guys that think they are sport and should be in base not that I am the fastest but I am a slow starter and get behind guys that cant ride what 11 year old base riders do is hard on the rest of us

As someone who's a total wimp and wouldn't be caught dead riding those trails, much less racing them, I've got to say to your criticism of that guy...waah waah waah...or better yet..

http://www.sadtrombone.com/

Looking at the video...he messed up and was just trying to find a way to jump back in....I didn't really see him interfering with others...only when he messed up again and held up others then he did become a pain.

Is he just supposed to wait until everyone else is gone?  He saw a break and took it.  Unfortunately, he effed up again.

I think you guys are being too hard on him, whoever the poor schmuck is.

Again, I've no vested interest.  Since I ran into Jason D. Friday before the race I'm curious how he and the others from UBC did.  Other than that, I'm a disinterested bystander and am a bit confounded by everyone smiting this poor guy.  Is there some race etiquette I'm missing?

I'm glad somebody else said it before I did.

In a similar situation I probably would have tried the same thing he did and probably would have been so flustered I would have fallen again. I've done one novice  race and am trying to get to Sunrise to run base for the first time. Before I have a chance to do something similar, what is the proper etiquette in that scenario?
