Rock garden
« on: October 30, 2010, 06:52:09 PM »
Anyone ride the South Abyss climb out before you drop back into Big Drop?  There's a rock garden in there now.  Wondering on feedback.  I think it needs some more work, but riders comments?

I dare not venture to black diamonds but I did drive by it yesterday on my way to sidewinder. Trail exit looked very interesting.

I think it will be much better once it rains and then gets ridden on a little.  It is completely passable, but that fill-dirt right before the rocks definitely sucks all momentum.  Once that becomes hard-pack, that will be a nice little finish to an awesome section.

Better than pavers. I like it how it is.

Surprised the hell out of me when i came around the corner and saw it for the first time. Took me three trys to figure out my line up, but I like it. Nice improvement.
I worry about erosion where the rocks end but then again maybe the rock with disperse the water and minimize erosion. Time will tell...

the rocks look solid at the end but the jump to them will get very high and intimidating with rain and rider erosion.  I think pavers or something similar at the bottom to ease the transition to the rocks will help further.

I road it Sunday and I thought it was pretty interesting. But I agree with the previous posts. You might have some erosion from the rain where the rocks begin causing a big step up on to the rocks.. but only time will tell…

Pic above was taken 11/5 right after they put those rocks.  It needed more fixing specially at the start of those rocks to make it a smoother transition.  I hope htye finish it now.  We didn't work on it last time I was out there before the FTF.

SP - you've just gotta pull up on the bars a bit to get onto the rocks. Maybe its the weight of the massive GPS unit thats keeping you from pulling up on the bars and clearing the climb? ;)
