my first night ride
« on: November 23, 2010, 10:15:59 PM »
I did a night ride for the first time tonight at flatwoods and had a blast. The weather was great and I got into a good group that kept me on my toes pace wise and we got in just over 18 miles. I'm hooked .Thanks to the guides and the park ranger who stayed.

Well, what was it like?  How different from day time riding?  Any crashes?

On the way back from the Levee, we had a guy crash on #45 going around the corner. He hit a patch of lose sand and it washed out his rear tire.. He had a few bruises but was fine...

Weather was perfect. It is a different experience but really fun. I do recommend lights in the 250 lumen or more range..

OK, I must not be being clear here.

Looking for impressions, descriptions.    I get it that it is different.  How is it different from riding in the day?    I want a who what when where why about night riding.

If anyone feels like obliging.  I know, you don't have time for a dissertation today.

The moon glistened off the top of the trees. My heart was filled with anticipation for the long ride ahead in the dark forest with only my helmet light and 10 others to guide me along. As we rolled away I could feel the cool night air on my skin. As we entered the single track, I could feel the excitement building in me as i realized these same trails that were so familiar to me in day light, were not much different after dark...

Recap- The same but only darker... ;)

It is dark.

And you apparently need something called "lights".
