Just curious

OK, if you were out on your bike and you came by someone on the side of the trail, lying on top of their bike, would you inquire as to how they were doing or if they were OK or if they needed help?  Or would you ride on as if you didn't even see them?

Just curious.

Because this happened to me today.  I'd stopped on part of Panther and just sort of toppled over.  I was lying there, trying to get up, and this guy comes flying by.  Doesn't ask if I'm OK, if I need a ranger or help or anything.  He just rode on.

It's pretty damned funny, actually, that someone could be so rude and/or callous.  I'm just glad I wasn't really hurt and didn't need any help.

Jonesy,

That was not you.  You would have stopped and offered me a beer.

mksandoz...
I understand Jonesy's explanation more.  Racing?  Against whom?

maybe you intimidated them with your awesome good looks and they were too shy to ask? j/k...

why do people ride out there with no helmets? why do people throw litter all over the trails? why do people ride closed trails? These questions and many more will never be answered...

He just rode on.

Sounds to me like someone was out there dropping hammmers; establishing their lactate threshold; making sure their heart rate was in zone 4; trying to call Scott while riding & looking for training advice.....

Or was he just oblivious to his surroundings?  Too busy worrying about his Facebook status update?  Trying to tweet while riding?

Or, since you were on top of your bike, perhaps he figured it was better NOT to stop and ask.  ;)

As I read through the responses to this thread I eventually noticed that the thread starter was female. There is no excuse for not even at least acknowleging that a female rider was down.
This is possibly a classic example of  narcicssitic behavior. Racing ,tweeting, or trying to keep heart rate up isnt a excuse and even bolsters that fact. But dont worry. karma has a way of getting people back. You might even be lucky enough to be in the right place , the right time
to see the poor bastard endo his face into some dog *. The satisfaction you get when your eyes meet after he clears poop from them will be priceless ;D

I think "most" men would have stopped, watched to see exactly what you were doing in the woods laying on top of your bike, then asked if you needed any help.

Glad you are ok.

Some of us only blast past downed Giant riders without checking to see if they are ok. ;D

PS. Good to know there are woman riders doing the Panther trail as quite a few men ( Giant riders?) don'r ride that trail. :o

Yeah, I may have said before that I'm not the bravest rider.  I've just gotten so where I feel like I own Panther.  Except that one spot, I picked a bad line, decided to stop and just toppled over.  You know, right after that happened the sky darkened and the rain clouds gathered and very cold water descended.  Hmmmm

while its important to stay in the correct zone while training checking Heart Rate and talking to Scott via Bluetooth its easy to get tunnel vision. Zone 4/5 training gets a little crazy and the thoughts of dropping hammers are dancing around in my head. Guys dont mock the HRM!!! Regardless if i saw you laying on top of your bike I would have stopped and offered assistance. At last i was not riding Sunday and was at home beating my CrownVic with a air ratchet despite with these guys say :).

I do agree if someone has crashed it is only polite to ask if they are ok.

later,

Big-E

Jen,
maybe they thought you were one of those deep woods scammers?

The scam is : You get a pretty girl ( like Jen) on a bike miles from the parking lot to act like she is injured or has fallen. When a good samaritan stops to help... all of a sudden three guys in camo jump out of nowhere ....bonk you on the head and steal your bike, camelpack and trail map.

It happens all the time. Mostly in shopping malls right at closing time but it does happen.
