Pedal, Paddle, and Camp
« on: April 17, 2011, 10:50:57 PM »
I'm trying to find the best place within 2 hours of tampa for going camping and taking the MTBs and canoe. I've thought about going out to Croom. Is there another place that anyone has been to in the area that would be better?

Alafia has the Alafia river running through it, I hear it's a popular canoeing spot. I haven't actually canoed there yet though. Flatwoods also has some good canoing, not sure about camping though.

There is no canoeing at Flatwoods. There is however boat ramps at Trout Creek and Morris Bridge and I am pretty sure there is no camping at either facility. (but there may be spots nearby?)

Thanks, I live close to flatwoods. Hillsborough state park is up the road and pretty close to (if not on) the river. Right now I'm leaning toward croom just for the variety of things to do there. Alafia is running in 2nd, but the river access is much more limited there. Has anyone ever paddled the Withlacoochee?
