Kenda Slant Six - Anyone riding them?
« on: May 03, 2011, 04:46:49 PM »
I have been toying with the idea of buying Kenda Small Block 8s for my 29er until I realized they only come in a 2.0 or 2.1 (whichever).  I typically ride a WTB ExiWolf at 2.3.  So, to alleviate this problem, I bought the Kenda Slant Sixes with the 2.2 width at a smokin' deal!!!

Anyone have any experience with the Slant Six yet?

I'm currently using the Small Block 8 on back and the Slant 6 on the front and love them. 2.1 on both. Now that the oak leaves are going away I'm starting to realize how well this combo works. They seem to work very well for the conditions we have here (except for the oak leaves). I used them during the Alafia Classic race and had no problems from 12 inches of water on River Loop to the ideal conditions on Roller Coaster, They grip the corners and roll pretty fast.  This past weekend they rocked on Jimmie Cotton's trails.
I became insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.

I just mounted a Slant Six tubeless on my bike for this weekend.  I am going to use it as a rear tire to replace my IKON that I destroyed at cohutta.  Let you know after the HH how it performed.
Tire weighed 703g  and so far seems to be holding air with sealant after some initial sidewall pinholes.

Not sure.  I looked down at one of the aid stations and noticed them.  They go completely around the tire.

Got a short ride on the slant six today.  Initial feeling is that it is a pretty good tire.  It had good grip in the corners, it had a slight slip right before the side knobs grabbed.  It is a pretty good roller, but not quite as good as the ikon.  It does seem to have a little more traction than the ikon but that's the trade off with the rolling speed.  It did wallow a little in sand but most tires do.  IMO much better than the SB8  which I hated.

Thanks for the update...I MIGHT have them on my bike should a 29er fork be available for me to use tomorrow!  Otherwise, it will have to be next week.

if you want a bigger tire you could always try the ardent 2.4

Well I am a HUGE fan of the 2.3 ExiWolf....until yesterday when I fell in love with the Slant Six 2.2s.  They handle speed turns betters with less slip in soft sand, and over roots in climbs.  Well done Kenda, well done!

I do not have any luck with tires at all when I am up "north"

Tore the sidewall on the slant six at jackrabbit.  I guess I managed to find the one sharp rock in the whole trail system to cut a tire on.  *sigh*
