New saddles and tires for the Rush! Past time!
« on: April 12, 2007, 09:57:44 PM »
My box from BlueSkyCycling came today ;D

I yanked off the Maxiss Larsen TT's and their tubes, installed some Mavic UST Presta valves in the rims, and mounted up the new tires. I got WTB Weirwolf 2.1 UST tires cranked up to 60psi seating on the rims, and can't wait to use them this weekend. Every time I rode the Rush with the Larsen TTs I wrecked it due to them washing out on me.

My Warrior came with tubed Weirwolfs and I liked them so much I had to put a pair on this bike. Oh, and I sold the Warrior and my extra Camelback Mule today. The guy is from St. Pete, but he's moving down to Sarasota. He drove a hard bargain, but I didn't lose too much on the deal :D He's using the bike to get into mountain biking to keep in shape while in school, just like I did. We'll probably go out riding together in the next couple of weeks.

My new saddles also came today. There is a little chart on the bottom of the cardboard that shows the WTB line-up from narrow to wide. I think the measurements on the website must have been wrong, because these were supposed to both be around 150mm wide. One of them is the narrowest saddle WTB carries- and also the lightest. The other is much wider and a bit plusher but not too much heavier. Supposedly, they're both lighter than the Specialized Rival 130SL that came on the bike. I'm going to take all three to the college with me tomorrow and use their scales to determine the exact weights. I'm keeping one and returning the other, or returning both if neither of them prove comfortable enough.

So, I weighed them today and...

The Specialized Rival 130SL came in ~225g
The WTB Shadow V was ~203g
The WTB Pure V was ~249g

I don't really want to ADD weight to the bike, but the Rival and Shadow are both to narrow! I'd love to find 150-160mm saddle at 225g or less...

If you like wtb try the Laser V.  155mm and about 235-245 grams.  I had one for awhile and really liked it.
Eventually I realized comfort was way more important to me than weight.  As a result I purchased this.

I have the Laser V Team I.S. with ti rails it is 245 grams, and it is wider than the rocket that I had before. It actually flexes underneath you and widen a bit more. It is the most comfortable of the four different saddles that I  have had in the last two years. One SDG and Three WTB's I think you can probably find it for around 80 to 90 bucks on line. It has a msrp of 120.00.

You also might want to make sure you are wearing a sufficiently padded pair of shorts.

best saddle i ever bought..

sella italia. slr xc.

the saddle weighes like 175 grams...  less is more..  the saddle is really small but it seems like there are less pressure points with this saddle than some of the others i have tried over the last few years.

i think i will stay with this one for a while.. thought its kind of pricey its worth every penny ..

my two cents.

Is 315grams but only paid ~$30 on ebay.  Brand new is $70 but you can now find them on sale for about $40-50.

I carried over a Rocket V from my last bike, its super supple but still won't make the rear go numb.

A very comfortable saddle.  I have it on two bikes.  They make three sizes that are designed to match an individuals sit bones.  The bike shops that carry them have an impression pad that you sit on and it tells you what size saddle for your particular sit bones.  I paid $65 for mine.

Hmmm... so they actually measure your butt and tell you where your cheekbones are so you konw which saddle size to get?  Hmmm... don't touch my butt, don't touch my butt, don't touch my f-#$#(*$ butt!!!

LOL..... very famous saying by Thumper.....  don't be surprise to hear about three rules all over this board very soon...

But  back to the point... yes they make 130mm, 143, and 155 if you have a wide cheeks... LOL...  I hav ethe 130 at 315 grams so the others go up in weight a bit....  It took me three rides to get used to it before I almost dished it out.

OK! OK! We won't
touch your butt!

I had never heard of that seat, it sounds interesting. I might take a look at that next time.

How wide do you think a bunny butt is? :-\
