TACORIDE
« on: June 19, 2011, 09:06:46 PM »
In honor of Alan I am leading the 1st annual Taco Ride this coming Sunday, June 26th. We'll leave from the New World Brewery in Ybor City at 8am sharp, heading along the river up north to Temple Terrace, USF, New Tampa, Flatwoods, Morris Bridge, etc. Not for you dirt snobs, this ride will be probably half dirty half paved. Total distance will be around 50 miles, more or less depending on how the day goes. Lunch will be at the Taco Bus, where you can eat your face off, before returning to New World Brewery for beverages and socializing. Blinkies recommended. Plenty of resupply spots along the way.

Here's a preview of the start route from the start to Morris Bridge: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4593475 and the return: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4589851.

Road bikes not recommended.

PM me if you are interested so I can know how many to expect.

Forgot to ask...are we allowed to park in the Taco Bus lot?  If not where is a good spot to park?

Boarding a plane to Charlotte that day. Will probably be too busy with last minute stuff. Otherwise I'd never turn down Taco Bus.

a tall gear is recommended. there are quite a few hills while following the river but also plenty of flat. but we will also ride the trails at flatwoods/MB so don't gear too high.

regarding parking, depending on how much interest there is we can figure out the parking shortly before the event.

why not stretch this out a little bit and start at New World? Safe free parking, and beer a plenty for after. I am going to slap on a 11t cog for all of my fast flat road needs, which also happens to be what wta calls for.

that ain't a bad idea jonsey. but part of the idea of this ride is the eating of tacos.

perhaps we can start and finish at NWB, but stop for tacos on the way out and on the way back :)

NWB opens at 2pm on Sunday, so that should be perfect timing for us to finish our ride + stop for tacos, then continue south for beer and socializing!

I was in no way suggesting that we skip taco bus breakfast. Butternut squash tostadas and shrimp quesadillas makes for some good ride fuel. Final sprint winner gets beer of their choice. (offer excludes 13 liter)

Good idea but how much time is this going to add into the ride?  I'm a bit stretched for time with the original plan...not sure I have enough for the extra leg of the trip.

Don't worry Alan, I've accomodated for the extra distance by tweaking the route. See the new outbound route here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=4593475
A few other notes:
  • This is not a sidewalk ride.
  • This is not a stair-riding-parking-garage bombing ride.
  • We will stay 'safe' and obey the rules of the road.
  • KOM points awarded at the top of every hill.
