So I think I have put together a good 36 mile route with a combination of back roads and with about 10 miles of that being single/double track in Valrico and Dover. The ride will start and end at 2 Great Restaurants in Brandon that happen to be right next to each other.
We will Meet at Ben's Family Restaurant 704 E Brandon Blvd Brandon, FL 33511 (Great Breakfast) and the ride will end in the same parking lot at Sabor A Mexico next door for lunch!
We will meet and roll no later than 8am giving us plenty of time to finish the ride around lunch time. There is a convenience store at the half way point (SR 60 & St Cloud) but please bring plenty of water and snacks just in case.
This is a NO DROP ride so don't worry about getting lost...
Please RSVP so I know you are coming.. the route is listed below!

They have ample parking in the back that the 2 share, but we also have the option of parking at GFS or Aldi that are on either side of them. I dont think it will be an issue since it is only 4 hours or so and we plan on eating there...

I went out and rode a portion of the track today before the rain came... here is what I found...

about 1/3rd of the track has good sidewalk riding on the busier streets with little foot traffic.

The best place to park is behind the Mexican restaurant because they do not have Tow Away Zone signs (Ben's Does) but there is plenty of space there to park..

So far the route is pretty SS friendly but you may want to run a 32-16, I but I ran 32-18 with not a whole lot of spinning...  Below is my track but I ran it from my house..

Did the rest of the route today but only a small portion of the dirt section as I have some work to do on that and I already know that section. Lots more sidewalk on some of the roads so a good 75% of the road section has them.. The route has at least 4 convenience stores for refueling with one right before we hit the dirt section at the corner or Sydney and Sydney Dover roads.

Like i said before this is a good SS route and I think I will run a 32-17 for it...

Too bad that's the weekend of my middle Tennessee mountain bike trip, because at the 35 mile mark of the route goes right by my house. If anyone is doing a scouting ride of the route between now and then and could use some company I'm down, so let me know here.

Here is the final Route as I have changed some sections as some of the roads were just to tight and busy for my taste.. I will be utilizing sidewalks on the busier roads for safety reasons...

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/41479798/

The route is right at 35 miles with only about 8 or so on dirt... the dirt section is easy so dont worry if you are new to it.. I do recommend Fat tires due to maybe having to hit the shoulder and the dirt section is pretty soft in spots...

The 1st Re-fuel stop it at the corner of Sydney and Sydney Dover roads... we will have at least 4 or 5 spots you can stop and re-fuel, so bring a few $$ to buy water or whatever..

Darrin,

What is the area where the majority of the off-road section is mapped? Between Dover Road, Salem Church, Sydney Washer and Hwy 60  It looks like a big park/old mine. Is that where the fire tower on 60 is, is there a trail-head?

The Mrs. and I are considering riding out there tomorrow and would appreciate any guidance in riding there.

Thanks,

Poser

That is Sydney Dover Trails and the main trail head is on Dover road 1/4 mile north of 60 on the east side. there is a big parking lot with as port -o-let there. there is also a parking area on 60 where fishers, and walkers/joggers park about 1/2 mile east of Dover road on the north. http://www.singletracks.com/bike-trails/sydney-dover-trails.html

and yes it is an old phosphate mine..

Great, thanks for the response, I can't believe that there is single track a short ride from my house, (Bryan & Lumsden), I am so down with that.

Anything else I'm missing in the area where I would not have to load up the JEEP?

We had 10 people brave the roads, sidewalks, and horse trails of Valrico/Sydney/Dover and Brandon yesterday and did a total of 30 miles. We cut out the last 5 miles due to heat and hunger...

A good time for all and some it was their longest ride ever. it will be done again with some course alterations I am sure...

Thanks for setting this up!

Suggest next time, more fun and less distance as about half of them were toasted...
