We got started from the landbridge on time after staging trucks at croom #3 at 7. It takes dedication to a plan to get 6 guys together at this time in the morning for what is bound to be a long hard day.
We rolled out with me in the lead for the the familiar part of the ride out to the new blue and beyond. Webs were thick in the front and it was not long until I had a jumbo spider on top of my helmet. Sketched out, I threw the helmet in the brush hoping to dislodge him without having to touch it. (dont like big spiders)
We made it to pruitt memorial and after a little Gps trouble in the parking lot after filling water, we took off on 200. I think it was soon after this we ran into the only bad trail of the day. Horse hooves had turned the two track into a washboard that tried everyone's abilities. If horses were able to ride on our trails, I would not ride.
We hit the subway on 200 for a perfectly timed sandwich break. The locals did not seem to thrilled to see 6 dirty lucrative clad bikers, especially  one with a hot pink bike and no shirt. I was feeling the rigid Ss abuse from the horse hooves , and threw out the idea that the next section of trail was possibly wet after all the rain the area had received . This may of been a subconscious decision that my body made knowing the pain that was ahead.
Skipping the next section of trail, meant that there would be some more road riding to do. Scott jumped out front and put the peddle down into a slight headwind that quickly broke the group up with a 22 mph pace.  I Hung in his draft spinning like crazy for the next who knows how many torturous miles. Aaron , went way off the back and we waited for him at the entrance to the cochee trail. We were.quite a bit north of the route , which meant an already long planned ride of flat asphalt just got longer.
It seemed like forever before we finally hit the 14 mile bailout of croom. Our excitement at finally getting back on the dirt was short lived as the long sandy ascents that we all know so well did their magic on our tired legs.  It was not long before I was deep in the pain cave, never to emerge until exiting the climb from tucker hill walking.
We capped our efforts with some good pizza and beers on 50 before heading back to landbridge to the waiting vehicles dropped off many hours before. great ride with great guys. 70 miles completed in 5 hours of riding. t o those of you that ride farther; my hat is off to you as we ate all that we could stomach and then some.

Scott was totally killing you on purpose. I love it. 22 mph on mtb's on a long ride. Awesome.

Someone dreaming of a new ITT record... Hmmmm?????

I hate to tell ya, but even if the grass along the canal between sr200 and the back of Potts was enough to slow you down for a while... it only lasts 2 miles. Then the roads in Potts are awesome. Gravel that holds up great in wet conditions. A wet Potts is better than a dry one!

Way to kill it. 5 hours is very respectable. Now, did you learn to minimize your stopped time? That is the UBER secret of ITT racing. Know what you want before you get to the store - know where your money is so you can grab it fast - know where  you're going to store your food when you get out of the store - and don't miss the opportunity to top off your water.

The other part of keeping stops short that it's a big advantage to not cool off too much. It takes far too long to warm up your body after a long stop. Dead legs, your body is screaming to go home, your brain starts to listen to that screaming..... bad stuff. Long stops should only be to sleep or fix a mechanical. I even suggest eating while riding.

And not putting in 22mph efforts..... you guys crack me up!

Up at 5 A.M. to get my stuff together and make my mandatory stop at Starbucks enroute to pickup aaron at I-75 and 56 by 6ish. All 6 riders arrived at Tucker hill around 7 and we proceded to load/unload bikes and all that goes with it into the appointed shuttle craft. Then another 45 + minute trek to the Landbridge parking area. We rolled out of LB around 8:30 to a healthy SS pace laid down by our navigator, who continued that pace all the way to the new blue. I thought I had experienced the new trail earlier in the year but the new shell lined up and down section was a sweet new addition that I don't remember being so good, finishing the single track we crossed the road and hit some sweet fast rolling double track with a very firm almost tarmac like base. This lasted almost all the way to pruitt, then we hit the section Jonsey refered to, sandy double track full of horse hoof tracks(really glad I had a suspension fork) luckily this section was probably less than 2 miles total, as we made a turn and the surface turned back to that firm tarmac like surface. We rode to 200 and pulled into stumpknockers, after aquick discussion we opted for subway just up the hwy for times sake, great call as they had a few tables in the A/C we were able to enjoy to reenergize our batteries. At this point we decieded that the halpata section would have to wait till next trip,so we headed South on the Hwy. It was at this point, with a full belly that the bike just wanted to GO. I got out front to provide a wind tunnel for my fellow riders, and we busted out probably 8 miles into a nice breeze. As we rolled into what ever town that was? we saw some sweet gnar singletrack climbs that dropped you on the Northern end of the coochie trail. I have always heard that the coochie is flat, but the nothern section is long gradual ups and downs similar to what you would find in croom only paved. We had a nice shaded ride for the next 20 miles passing several lakes, towns and parks with the opportunity to refill our bottles. And finally, the 14 mile bail YES singletrack. The last 10 miles were croom blue sweetness at a very aggressive pace considering we had 60 miles on our legs already. Climbing out of croom yellow, the sight of tucker hill and the cool shower waiting for us was a welcome sight. This type of riding is really starting to appeal to me, even more so with a great group like we had yesterday, everybody was letting them roll.

BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH, same stuff as Jonesy and Scott wrote..............

Glad I didn't try to keep up with the group on the first section of the road. Wasn't THAT far behind while ya'll waited for me. ;D I was geared the worst with 33/17. Jonesy had a slight advantage with his 32/16.

Last 3 miles of Croom sucked, especially the last climb out.

Id like some gears next time if there will be that much road!!! SPIN FEST!

not as much road on the original route, just saying... Glad y'all had fun!

Truth be told the Santos to Croom part is the easy part of the CFiTT, ONF seperates the men from the boys

The 2nd road part I kept up with everyone. Drafting people and doing 2-3 hard cranks then coasting... over and over and over. Was only way to keep up without spinning to death.
