TACORIDE II
« on: October 13, 2011, 08:53:09 PM »
I have revised the TACORIDE route to make it harder and more fun! Also, I've figured that a great day to try and run the TACORIDE is the day of the BICYCLE BASH at Flatwoods. Why is this a good time you may ask?

Because the TACO BUS will be serving food at Flatwoods!!!
Because we can drop Mayor Buckhorn on the Paved Loop!
Because it will make riding through Flatwoods LESS BORING!!!

The bicycle bash is Sunday, November 6th. See more info here.

TACORIDERS will start and finish at New World Brewery in Ybor city. Start time is flexible, but how about 9am?

Great plan. I am in. I will arrange for food at New World, thinking pork bombs with a couple of different sides for post ride refuel. Hope it rains ;)

Tallahassee cyclocross on Nov 6th.

Bike Co Op will technically be at the Bike Bash but pretty much all the regular volunteers will be in Tallahassee so we'll probably just have a table with a volunteer handing out flyers.

Still, if you have any cast off and unneeded used parts in reusable condition we'll take them. We really need 7 and 8 spd flat bar shifters.

Mike Have I ridden this?

What I am trying to do is get dropped off then ride home at the northern most point of your route.

More bang for my buck.

If its the route Mike that I joined you and Rob for, then I know I can totally do what I am planning.

Sorry for the delay in this reply, I have been on a forum sabbatical.

Happy to see that the usual suspects are IN. Scott, NOBODY is allowed to work on Sundays, come on!

Jonsey: thanks for finding and posting the route, and working with Steve to set up some food. Let us know what we can expect when you know (and the cost).

Karlos: this ride is different from what we did with Rob. The TACORIDE goes along the Hillsborough river up to Flatwoods, while the ride we did with Rob followed the canal. That ride was unpleasant at times. But you will still be able to peel off at the same spot where we got off the canal and took the road up to the Fort King trail, so your plan should work just like last time.

The TACORIDE, it should be clear, involves a substantial amount of road riding. The roads that follow the river are often old, crappy, bricky and can be hilly. I think they are fun, but then again I am a roadie. Traffic will not be a big deal, but blinkies are still recommended.

Here is an updated route. Note that the ride is more than 50 miles, as the trails within Flatwoods are not taken into account very well in this map:

Karlos, you would peel off around mile 10.5 and head up Harney road to the Fort King Trail/Hillsborough River State Park.

I have arranged to have bbq lunch served at New World consisting of delicious pork bombs, greens , and baked beans. Awesome pizzas are also available. Cost should be under $7 per person. I should also be able to get us happy hour pricing on beers.

What's the the typical pace of this ride? Is is a balls out epic hammer fest all day long, or can mere mortals, in decent shape, participate?

I think MK and I are running ss, so no one with gears should have a problem keeping pace on the road sections. The single track might split us up a little, but we will wait for everyone at the turns. Last time it was a no drop ride.

terrain is mostly backroads along the hillsborough river, some bike lane, some doubletrack, some singletrack (flatwoods), some bike path, some grass, etc.

ill be spinning out on 34x16 most of the time :)
