As far as the decline in 26" goes, I would have to deduct that since 99.9% of the riders out there are of average or below in skill level and are not super aggressive

I feel the need to clarify ....... I measure skill level by the elite in all cycling disciplines.....so myself and nearly everyone I have ever known is either average or below  :)

are there any advantages to still owning a 26?

That's true and I did read the comments you mentioned.

We (or I) may have gotten off track. The question at the end of the original post was "are there any advantages to still owning a 26?

I would say yes since you can build up a strong, reliable, low maintenance, low cost 26" all mountain ride that you can DJ, freeride, 4X, park, street trials, cross country etc. You can have a jack of all trades and master of none bike but to me that's the advantage :-X

I read the same article and the responses from the Niner guy were very one sided where I felt the Norco guy gave a very balanced look at both sides.

You can do that with 29" wheels as well.  Shop carefully and you can build a 29er just about as cheap as a 26" bike.

He said jack of all, master of none.  You can use a road bike for trials if you want (there is a UK vid of a guy doing some trials maneuvers on a carbon road bike) so why not a 29er?  All depends on the rider.

Thanks guys, although I must admit I have no idea what some of you are talking about, lol.

I'm doing well so far, it takes a while to get your legs and lungs back, and I'll only be able to ride once or twice a week if I am lucky.

I get what some of you are saying about a bike that can do it all, but I don't do much. So let me again modify my question. Is there any real advantage to a 26er if the only parks you ride normally are Carter rd/LHP, Alafia, and Markham?

I have my 26 to the point where I honestly can't think of anything to upgrade, other than maybe so Ti bolt weight weenie nonsense, and, oh yeah, my riding skills.
