Notice how you never see any suspension on a bmx bike, yet they get a LOT more air than 99.9% of the mtbers with either front or full suspension so air it out at santos :) The reason you see your better riders on HT's is because they have learned how to ride dynamically, they are not stuck in the saddle and they appreciate the 100% energy tranfer you get compared to a suspended rear. Taking that idea one step further is a ridgid front, you save more weight and gain even more efficiency with no fork bob, but the rider will have to be more active.

Rear suspension is not needed.. it is nice to have on some trails, but like Scott said, you just have to ride some trails differently. get out of the saddle more, use your knees, etc.

He is obviously confused as to the proper way to ride a bicycle.  The ass is supposed to be on the saddle, not your chest.  Duh.  ;)

I would say if you are looking to get in XC racing or just trail riding for fun I would get a hardtail (or a crazy SS Rigid if you are into self mutilation :p), or one of the short travel super spiffy carbon full suspension bikes.  If you ever plan on doing Enduro racing or more technical trails, or don't like having your butt pounded for miles don't even look at a hardtail.  Again, unless you plan on doing the drops at Santos, no FS bike is 'needed'.  A long travel/slacker front/hardtail I feel is the perfect FL bike or something like Trek's Fuel Line or the Slash being the beefies thing you can get away with riding in FL.

To Scott: Slopestyle....that is all....

JUST PICK ONE AND BUY IT! I suggest the most expensive, it will make you a better rider.
