Alafia trail work day - Saturday July 14th
« on: July 07, 2012, 04:21:13 PM »
 Hello volunteers,
There’s a new Alafia trail boss in town – Jeff White (that’s me).
The FTF is coming soon to Alafia (Nov 9-11, 2012) – only FOUR Saturday trail work days left.

Perhaps there are volunteers who wish to learn more about “how to build sustainable trails”. Each Saturday work day at Alafia, I intend to demonstrate building techniques for sustainable trails. The instruction part takes 15 minutes – then you apply the technique. If you already know today’s subject, I will put you to work immediately.

Monsoon season is upon us. Sand is our nemesis. This Saturday’s demonstration is “rolling grade dip drainage” (not “water bars”). This is an important construction technique to avoid sand buildup on trails. Learn “where and how” to build and maintain proper drainage. During any maintenance day –  every trail I walk, I build (or re-build) rolling grade dip drainage.

Our trails need your precious volunteer services – together we build superior, sustainable trail systems. That’s something to be proud of… bragging rights that you help create. How many more hours do you need for swamp bucks & T-shirts?

Please RSVP to volunteer on the 14th and get lunch. Demonstration starts @8:30. Lunch @12:30. Afternoon shift @1:15.
Thanks in advance for your participation. Sorry this email was so long  :-[

A really big THANKS to all 23 volunteers who contributed muscle, sweat and time today at Alafia. A total of 108 hours with several working both morning and afternoon shifts.

We had three power trimmers running, pavers hauled, trees cut and many learning and applying their skills in “rolling grade dip drainage” fixing countless sand pits on North Creek. Together we build superior, sustainable trail systems.
 Thank you
 Jeff White
