7/8/2007 Share the Road Ride - St. Pete (pinellas county)
« on: May 17, 2007, 11:26:06 AM »
http://www.sharetheroadride.com/

I am thinking about entering this road ride.  No money to raise and is only $17 entry fee.  There will be 10,20, 40, and 60 mile courses.  Is a "show your colors" road ride...  While other seniors SWAMP members don't like to see our swamp jearseys on a road ride, it may be cool to show our support for the "Share The Road" ride effort.  Specially after so many of us have their license tag.

Let me know if any of you register of it.  I am still thinking about it and waiting to see what my kids/wife vacation schedule is going to be.  Register here in active.com http://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1425080%20

Where do you ride from and to where? Whats the course? I'm not familiar with the location. What day does that fall on, anyone know? Probably a Saturday if I had to guess. But it being after the 4'th, it might be different. Sounds like a good thing to do. You get a tee shirt  out of the deal and sag support. Not bad for 20 bucks.

Jul. 8 Share the Road Ride.
Rides start at North Shore Pool, 901 North Shore Dr. N.E. 7 a.m. registration and check in, 8 a.m. ride begins. 10, 20, 40 and 62 mile rides to increase public awareness of bicyclists rights. Registration $17 online, $20 by mail, $25 day of. sharetheroadride dot com or 727-582-1910.

There are a few choices for the course.  One goes North, another goes South.  July 8th lands on a Sunday actually. It starts just North of the Downtown core of the city on the waterfront behind and towards the water side of the Vinoy.

I don't have a clue about how to use hand-signals though ??? Well that's not entire true- I do know how to use one...

Yeah I know censored messages are bad... but that won't fly here daddy!!)  ;)

good catch bob...

Garry,
Have you done this ride or some of these roads before?  There is a map on that website but I can't click on it.  Are the roads somewhat safe?  Anyways, I have registered for it now.  I think I'll attempt the 60 miles... Was kind of hoping they have a century option but 60 will do for my first "organized" charity ride.

I am going to be sending to a couple of other SWAMP friends who don't participate here regularly I am sure I will be able to get 2 maybe three more.  Hoping for at lest 2-3 or from here.  So I am sure we wiill have at least 5 SWAMPers on there.  Question is now... Blue, Orange, or Red SWAMP jearseys?  Those are the only three I have....  ;D  ;D  ;D

I have done this ride and live here in St. Pete and also a member of SPBC.  The routes are marked on the pavement with what looks like a chainring and crankarm and the letters STR done with spray paint so it's tough to get lost.  I'll probably go for the 60 miler too.  Hah!  Beware, some of these guys love to hammer, so watch for sprints if you get hooked up in one of those groups.  ;-)

Any more takers???  So far we have four SWAMP riders registered.  Garry sent to swamp newsgroup so I am sure there will be others joining...  See you on the road!

No cut off, even day of registration.  Probably wouldn't get a T-Shirt if you waited that long, but it isn't until July 8th.

Tredlight,
Don't quote me on this but I belive the course is the same for everyone.  When you get to the 5 mile marker, you will see a sign that say, return point for the 10 miler course.  When you get to the 10 mile marker, you will see the 20 mile return marker, 20, and 32 etc...
