lets add some berms at boyette
« on: November 01, 2012, 09:29:42 AM »
So I've been riding for awhile and I love it! but I'm the type of rider where I like to go through a trail as fast as I can and it seems there are some really nice parts where a berm could be added to keep the speed going. Now adding these berms wouldn't take any of the trail away just add to it to make it a little more fun to the faster riders out there so you could still keep it technical for those type of riders and make them quick for us speed riders.
So what do you guys think? I'm going out riding on Friday and I would be happy to take some pics of some different areas where I think adding a berm could make a trail a lot of fun!
Remember I don't want to take away from the trail just add to it ;)

I feel the same way. There's so many spots that if there was a berm on the outside of the turn it would do two things, speed up the trail and also make it flow better. I would definitely be willing to spend my time helping build these if they were going to be added...  ;D

Happy to hear it! keeping the flow going is key for me, Its a pain to get a nice flow going then having to slow way down just to make a turn. The berm close to the end of ridgeline is great! its one of the parts I look forward to getting to on the trail! I got some extra wood at the house to that could be used if need be and I as well would love to spend my free building.
Come on guys lets do this!! we could make these trails more fun than what they are already!!

Just curious to why you wouldn't want a dirt berm in some of the corners? Is it because you don't know how to ride a turn like that? Or you just like flat corners? Not bashing on you just wondering why some riders do not like banked corners?   :D

Sand banked turns are no fun.

Yes this is true, unless your on a dirtbike. ;)

But hard packed corners on a mountain bike are a blast.  ;D

Understandable, since I'm sure a lot of the trails up there have them. But if we had them here it doesn't mean you have to hit them, just stay at the bottom of the trun where it's flat...  :D

Are you really going that fast through a corner that you need a berm on flat trails?

I like to go fast so a berm is perfect! you cant put them everywhere but there are some really good spots that if there was one there it would make it a lot more fun for some of fast riders. yes there is a lot of sand out there but there is also a bunch of dirt so making a berm would not be hard. and again I dont want to take away from the trail just add to it ;) bunch of different riders out there and some of us like going fast when we can so adding little things like a berm here and there would make the trails more enjoyable for us fast guys ;)

I agree there are few spots that can have a packed berm either using concrete or wood as a material. A proper drainage will need to be design as not to erode the berm or probably cover them with tarps during the rainy season.

I was in the middle of building a pump track in my back yard but I would gladly give up my wood and break down what I have made to use as material for this!

Definitely would have to take it in consideration on where to put these berms at so that when it does rain the water still runs off and isn't held by the berm or make some type of drainage that will help it out as well...

Railing a fast banked turn is so much fun and would make a lot of these trails wow factor jump wayyyyyyyy up!!  ;D
