New bridge to Magic Island
« on: May 06, 2013, 06:48:45 PM »
Hope some of you got to enjoy the new bridge to Magic Island on Sunday. We are quite proud of it and ready to work on the next phase of the bridge. In my horrible MS paint photo, you get the general idea of the wooden berm we plan on installing next Saturday, if all goes according to plan. The only setback we are experiencing is that SWAMP has very limited funds and the materials to build these structures are rather pricey. If anyone is willing to kick in a few bucks we can get these bridges built much quicker. We still have an exit bridge and possibly an exit berm.
Our panhandling at the trailhead on Sunday has already got us over $100 but we still need more to build the berm. Any money donated goes to materials only. We will have a donation bucket out at the worksite on Saturday, I will give my Paypal address if necessary, but cash is easier for us. Message me if you want to donate that way. Im the guy to the far right in the pic. We will keep building as long as we have materials.  Thanks, Nat

nice work. im new to all this, is it possible to use logs and make the slats out them? ive seen sections done like this and while it takes time to split the logs could save $. unless they rot quick or something idk about.

are you planning to use some sort of mold resistant materials? i've seen some nasty wipeouts when the wooden bridges get moldy. I can only imagine that a wooden berm could be lethal.

Darksidemxer, we really need to stick with pt lumber, anything else will rot too quickly in our environment.
Pro edge, We plan on coating the bridge with a non skid coating like on the ramp on North Creek.

I rode it yesterday how the hell did you guys hide it. It was a whole mountain of a trail and ive never ever seen it. That banked bridge was kinda sketchy to me. How come you guys used the round sided up. Then i had a slow mo fall at the small left banked turn, not enough speed and slid Nice job !! whats going on at the beginning of northcreek I saw a path being cleared out ?

you wont miss the entrance on north creek. Its comes up during a left turn and you'll clearly see the bridge turning right. I seriously dont know where it all came from but its def. there now.

You can't miss it. A little ways after the option to head to the campground , be ready for the bridge on your right, it's almost tough to not ride straight down the new bridge.

Rode the new Majic Island option trail yesterday to try the new bridge out and test the exiting berm that Jeff just made for him. The bridge  is great, but will be even better once the banked part of it is built, and the berm could use a littel tweaking, but wouldn't be hard to do!!

There's no way you can miss this new section, unless your looking at your front tire the whole time you ride ..  ;)

rode it LOVED it. went back for seconds and it was closed due to wet paint. The banked berm with the rounds up is rough as hell lol but the long berm right after that is AWESOME, my wife loved that one but wouldnt hit the rough one. Nice job. does this magic island have anything to do with the new section by the 1st hard option of north creek *parking lot entrance*?

Thanks to all who donated to the bridge fund today!! We drove in the pilings for the wooden berm and laid out the curve with PVC. We will most likely finish this phase next Saturday.
We started with $200 dollars from last week. We received about $450 today, including a $100 dollar Home depot card , that's right 450 bucks!! Plus a donation of some nice 2 x 6s. So al together, if you include a 2x6s and a $100 bucket of deck screws, we have raised about $700 so far. What we have now should pretty much get us a pretty well along on the exit bridge. We would like to build a berm for the exit bridge as well. We enjoy building this stuff for everyone to ride, we will continue to build if we have materials. Thanks again for really coming through for SWAMP today!

Rode it today, there's a lot of twists and turns crammed into this little trail. Great work guys.  Voodoo masks are a nice touch, haha.  I thought it was fun, I didn't make the hairpin climb first time through, and the last berm could use a better line.  I love the smell of fresh wood cut on the entry bridge.  I would donate/help on the exit bridge, when are you working on it again?
Smite me fondly
