First post, new bike opinions. great site
« on: July 05, 2013, 12:52:39 AM »
Hey all I'm new to the site, moved here from Michigan about 4 years ago. Just found out there were mtb trails here and really excited to hear that as I used to ride in Michigan. Anyways I'm gonna buy a new bike have narrowed it down to a few hardtail 29ers. I've been doing a lot of research and can certainly make my own decision on what ill buy but would like any opinions or suggestions on theses models. If you have one of these bikes please chime in and tell me if you like/dislike. Thanks and I look forward to riding with you all.  Happy trails!

Giant talon 29er 0
Specialized rockhopper pro
Trek cobia
Scott scale 960
Cannondale trail sl 1

Leaning towards the Scott or giant, university has both of them 15% off right now.

Welcome!

Out of all those the Trek and Cannondale have the better forks. If I were in your budget I would check out some online choices like Airborne or Civilian or Bikes Direct. You will get way more bike for your money.

The geo on the Scott is pretty sweet, slacked out HTA and crazy short chain stays. Spend the extra $200 to $300 to get into the 950 which comes with a much better fork. Having said all that Jenson was blowing out niner air 9 frames over the holiday, you may be able to build a ubber rig for similar $$$

This would be a great base to build upon :)

nice deals for both of those setups.... only downfall is that they are tapered frames and using an adapter to fit the straight fork. It definitely works that way but a tapered fork would be a steal......
wherever you go.....there you are.
Just a big Hooper!

Airborne is spec'd better and cheaper.

The C'Dale would prob be what id go after on the list. The sl2 in blue is pretty sharp too.

The Giant XTC 2 is also within the price range, as is the Norco Nitro 9.2.

Welcome to Florida! I moved down from Michigan in 2006, Grand Rapids area. :)

If you're going to go with a hardtail 29er make sure you invest in a nice front fork like a REBA or a FOX Float 29.  Check out AJ's Bikes and Boards in Valrico too if it's not too far of a drive, great guys as well.
