bike was submerged under water...what now?
« on: June 02, 2007, 07:45:48 PM »
so i hooked a root and went head first into swamp water.   me and my bike were 100% submerged.  do i need to do any special maintenance to the bike to make sure the bearings/bushings brakes etc are ok?

1ST I hope you are all right.

2ND I would rinse the bike with clean water.   I would then remove the chain, bottom bracket and the wheels and fork.  I would clean the bottom bracket shell and headtube as best I could.  Depending on your hub type I would clean and re lube your front and rear hub.  Re pack the headset bearing if its not the sealed type.  Put everything back together with lube where needed / required.

3RD  Have a beer and a cigar and formulate a cool story to tell your friends.

You were wresiling "Big Mamma" gator who attacked you as you came up on her on the trail.  At least that is what you told me when I snapped these pics.   ;D ;D  I hope you got all that green stuff off you now.   :D :D

P.S.  If you want the full resolution pics give me a shout.  I made them smaller so they would load faster on here.

north creak/alafia  saw a small gator took eyes off trail and hit a root...front tire washed out and over bench cut...endo'd head first still clipped in - had to unclip in the water and then pull myself and bike out and climp back up out of the swamp...needless to say, the gator was in my mind...heart rate has to have been about 180...lol
