Getting from Hwy 301 to Morris Bridge
« on: October 24, 2016, 06:12:01 PM »

I need some help.Does anyone know of a way to ride (or walk or carry) a mountain bike from anywhere in Hillsborough River State Park or the Lower Hillsborough River Preserve to Morris Bridge Road? Another way of stating that question: Is there anywhere to cross the river without having to swim? For instance, can you ride under the power lines (past the entrance to Indian) and keep going east and somehow get across Cow House Creek and emerge on US 310? (I understand that I could ride on the road to the Tampa Bypass Canal, but I'm looking for a viable alternative.) Thanks.

I've scoped it out before...you can get to the powerline rd by hopping a county gate in a neighborhood and cutting over to the powerline, but when I got there it was way too overgrown to ride.

You can cut through someone's yard in the community just West of the rv camp ground, then ride sand and horse trails. Been there done that, but not something I would suggest,

Hey Redriderpro -- Thanks for responding. Are you referring to the area near the powerline easement that runs past Indian or are you referring to somewhere else? Thanks again.

There isn't an alternative that I would call viable.
You can ride the power lines until it hits cow house creek, then you would have to swim. I have never seen it dry there, too close to river.
I have walked between Gator bite and the Jefferson horse trails off 301 when that part of cow house creek was dry.  Not ride-able though, and the creek hasn't been dry in at least a couple years.  Also, not supposed to bike the horse trails.

FYI- this is passable now.  Not only ride-able but there's tangerines!
