Speed. How fast have you gone on a bike?
« on: June 14, 2007, 05:13:00 PM »
MTB - low 30's for short downhill bursts
Road - maybe 40, last time I was in the mountains, Burnt Mtn. ride

I mention this because I was just thinking about Graham (813Racing) doing the 3 gap on his Orbea road bike last month. He was almost at 70 mph, upper 60's. He said it was scary. I was scared at 40 mph.

I've done 50mph on a 2 mile downhill in PA when I was 14 years on my 18 speed bike. :D

I've gotten the F600 up to nearly 30mph on a flat road. The hubs or something started humming (louder than the tires) around 25MPH. I didn't keep up the pace very long, I just had to get out in traffic for a bit (Speed Limit was only 35 thank goodness).
We see the world not as it is, but as we are.

No downhill time Garry? I'm curious now as to how fast I can pedal the road bike on a flat road. Different situations also, like in a group sprint, a little wind at the back, slight down grade.
KJ, 50 mph at 14 is going for it! What kind of bike was that? Huffy?

I've done 42 on a road bike on a downhill by Dundee.

On a MTB I think the fastest is 31 or so.

Downhill on the MTB, yes.  Actually on the road bike I don't believe we had a wind that day, but we did have a group of energetic guys and girls cranking some rhythm. Hopped into the big chainring before a small hill over a creek - then on the downside it's just enough hill to give you a little umpf to sprint for just over 3 blocks.

I have hit just under 32 on the flatwoods loop. In the dip where you go through trout creek, next to the bridge.

If I remember correctly I think it was a Murray Bike from Montgomery Ward.  :D I also had a nice Pep Boys bicycle speedometer with big cables connect to the rim spokes. lol! Then one day I told my brother let see what it can do with all 18 speed pedaling fast. I remember looking at it and it say 50 mph and plus I was passing cars that were going 40 mph due to being that speed limit down that mountain. Man those were good time!! :D
