Unlike slowfatguy I am smaller(and way better looking) so the non tubeless tire works good for me even in races. no flat for two years now

you also ride like a little girl! :)

On a serious note, if you start jumping stuff to much, it is gonna bite you eventually.

I'm a big fan of the UST system and have had a UST tire on the rear of my XC bike for over a year now with no problems and I don't use any kind of Stan's or other goop.  I was able to initially inflate the tire with just a floor pump and it holds are better than my tubed setups.  I'll be converting over the rear wheel on my big bike to a UST rim in a couple of weeks and will eventually replace the front wheels of bikes with UST tubes when I have some extra $$$.

I run both versions of tubeless for two different reasons. On the weight weenie go fast bike I run a true UST rim and Specialized 2Bliss tire which is a conventional cased tire with a UST bead. Reason being is no rim strip no extra weight but bear in mind I am not hucking this bike. I ran a true UST system on my trail bike at after bombing the second to last drop on Moonscapes lochness ridge and coming in a little HOT!!!! I burped the tire and the outcome was NOT PRETTY :'(  I have since gone to a conventional rim(Mavic 717) with a stans rim strip because I think the interaction between the rubber strip and the tire at the bead makes a more secure JOINT 8) So far So good :)

Interesting...I haven't had any burping issues yet (Mavic UST rim and Kenda Small Block 8 tire), though my friends that run Stan's with regular tires have run into burping issues particular with non-UST Mavic rims and Panaracer Fire XC's.

By the time I get out west this year, I'll have Mavic 823's (their DH UST rim) on my Intense running Michelin DH32 front and DH16 in the rear that I'll go tubeless with - I'm really curious to see how these tires will perform and if I have any issues with them.  It'll be my first time in several years going with dedicated DH tires out there and my first time trying tubeless on more demanding trails.

I pulled a thorn out of the trusty Panaracers today, I picked it up sometime durring the 51 miles yesterday at Santos. I don't think i would have known if I hadn't inspected the bike today. That same thorn would have had me changing tubes somewhere out on the MOSQUITO infested woods :(. When I pulled the thorn a little bit of Stan's came with it. It hissed for a split second and then sealed. I am sold! ;D That said, I could see if you were leaving the ground with any regularity, it could be at little taxing on the bead of a non UST tire.
