I tried it twice today for the first time.. came around the corner having never ridden the lower trail and once I saw "the wall" I tried to down shift as much as I could and managed to get 3/4 of the way up, I almost tumbled back down and died when I stopped and had trouble unclipping.
The second time I was more prepared but I got the same outcome again. that is a tough little climb, something to work up to.

It helps to yell at it and call it your bitch! Verbal sound effects work well too!

from watching people do that climb - it seems it is all about how much speed you can carry around that corner

I called it my bitch when I was laying on my back with my bike still clipped to my feet looking up at Jimbo. :D

There are few that I can't get that one has my name on it. I did see my bike ride up it, someone else pedaling. So I know it is me not my bike.

Perhaps the Rockshox Reba Team I just ordered will help me make that climb next time out  ;D

That new front fork will definitely step up your game. I've heard Chisel yell that shiznit out before, but up until now, I thought he was talking to Sweetness.  ;D

I used to have trouble with this and have a good method now.  I agree that knowing it is around the corner is half the battle and carrying some speed does help.  I stay in the saddle on the nose with my chin on the bar in middle front and 30 or 34 in the back and finess my way up.  I like to stand and jam sometimes but not in this one.

Yeah....I have climbed tougher. This one is mental......or maybe I'm mental? One of the two.

To me, it's all about choosing the right line.
If you wait to begin your turn into the corner until just before slamming into the big tree, you'll be drawn right into the middle-line up the face of the climb. I really don't use alot of speed; the toughest part is the last pedal stroke right at the very top. I usually do the climb 2 - 3 times (back to back), and I've realized that it really doesn't take a great deal of effort. Again, I think it's mostly about choosing the right line.

You don't have to hit it fast, you just have to hit it "right". You need some momentum, but you have to be able to hold a tight line and get right on the pedals quickly and smoothly. Once you hit it right, you'll know when you get it right.

Last fall when we were doing regular Thursday evening rides out there, Forest, [someone else], and I were lucky enough to be the first 3 people to clean that climb. Back then all the rocks were at the bottom, right in the turn, so you couldn't ride into it with much speed at all.
Middle chainring and the biggest cog is what it took for me to ride it then, standing up and pretty much doing a wheelie up it to get enough traction.

Now, I just have to notice when it's coming up, stand up, and mash the pedals. Since the rocks are gone I can go into the turn with a lot more speed and don't need such a high gear in the back. I make it pretty consistently, provided I remember which corner it's around!

Of course, the Weirwolf tires help a lot ;D I have them on both my FS and HT now!
