Pro's/con for using round-up type products on trails
(1/1)
EllsRider:
I would think that in areas where it is difficult access for mowers it would be lower mntc. Is there any enviro concerns? Keep away from wetlands for certain but any others? Are there any restrictions about using products like this on govt. owned lands? Just curious, not planning on doing any spraying. Just a trail builder/mntc. question.
Garry:
It's a tough one as the land managers have to do all these studies and check "peripheral vegetation" before spraying so they aren't hitting un-targeted species as well. Sometimes it works good to spray in areas. For the most part if the trail is aligned under tree cover, or gets a lot of traffic it's not much of an issue. Also if spraying near bodies of water is always a choice that warrants a good look. Safer and right away results with a weed eater or pole trimmer now and then.
firebiker:
On the County land in Sarasota we only spray exotics. Not native species. I can't speak for Hills. County though. There is a spray we use that is safe to use near wetlands.
