Multi hour bottle
« on: April 19, 2011, 02:13:54 PM »
Upon reading mixing instructions on the Sustained Energy packet, there are instructions for a Multihour bottle. Basically mix one bottle extra thick and keep the other bottle free for pure water or another mix... Heed etc. Anyone have done this or is it worthwile? trying to get last minute setup ready. Basically it would turn a single bottle into a 2hr or possibly 3hr setup
wherever you go.....there you are.

your milage may very.... after a couple of hours of any mix, i find i get tired of it. sometimes disgusted even.

you should know how you like things to taste at different stages in your rides. hour one is always different than hour 4, 5, or 6..... when your stomach is shouting 'no mas!'

but, i have done the double or triple strength mix. if it can be tollerated, it can work. always, always, always drink a ton of water after every sip of the thick stuff. the more powder in the mix the slower it is digested and taken up into the blood stream. water dilutes, speeding the process.

there are sags with real food every so often, so at least you will alternates available.

I am thinking the multi hour paste would be pretty nasty, I would bring individual servings of SE and mix them 1:1 with heed or some other flavored electolyte drink starting after hour 2

I tried the "multi hour bottle" approach for a while. It can work, but its not fun.

If you go with a thick mix, remember to SIP early and often, not take big swigs.

But I would recommend real food cause it tastes better. Good taste is important when you are hating life trying to climb a mountain on a Niner.
