Down side of XTR
« on: June 29, 2009, 03:38:38 PM »
Replacement parts are out of this world expensive! Several months ago I broke a drive side crank arm on my XTR cranks.$220 just for the crank arm, no chainrings, hardware, or anything. Ended up putting the XTR's on a shelf and then bought a decent FSA set complete with BB for 2/3 the price of the single XTR crank arm. I guess XTR wasn't designed for the average Joe.

Just the other day I finally picked up a brand new XTR crank arm for like $40. Thanks ebay!

XT is sufficient for me, and much cheaper.

I blame the XT cranks for me not winning the sport (aka fun) class at the Urban Crit.  :D

I did that race last year. You should blame the fact that professional triathletes were in the beginners class for you not winning, seriously. There were a Banned wordload of sandbaggers in those classes.

Yep, way too heavy.   ;)

So what is the acutal weight difference between XT and XTR?

what is the rotational weight difference is a better question

it is magnified when it moves - I went XTR cranks and also went to a light shoe (shoes are rotational weight) and it made a big difference

I find it funny when I see people with super light bikes and carbon cranks and then wearing heavy shoes

Probably 20 grams.

I would make a generalization about color coders and those who say "[...] my whole drive train is XTR." However, I will save that generalization for an MTBR thread... Not to mention I am too busy collecting urine samples.
