Bonking
« on: July 22, 2009, 03:37:02 PM »

Is this more nutrition or more ride time. I dont get out but maybe once a week lately and havent been training either. When I ride I seem to bonk quicky but then I recover and can ride for awhile. Its pretty annoying and I am trying to overcome this but dont know if its just that I dont ride enough.

you are pushing yourself past your lactic threshold.  riding more will push your LT up and make it harder for you to hit it.  nutrition will also help as far as giving you "fuel" to ride.

they are both equally important

Did you pick that up from Catman?  Bonk early then recover and have a great ride?  ;D

FE......
Will the Long slow distance training be a good way to condition or just stand and hammer for a while?

LSD - Aero base building is a MUST - You are only as solid as your foundation

Do a 20 minute all out effort - ride as hard as you can - then see what your ave Heart Rate is.  that is very close to your Lactic Threshold.

once you find this - go ride 2-4 hour rides at about 70-75% of your LT - do 1500-2000 miles of this and then ask me step 2

Croom is good - ride somewhere that you can control your effort and stay in saddle for long periods of time.  You are also at the same time teaching your body to use fat as fuel - the most efficient fuel that you can burn. (especially at croom)
