Trails at Alafia are in SWEET Shape!
« on: July 31, 2010, 09:15:30 PM »

Julianne North asked this be posted to the forum:

"Alafia trails are in great  shape.  Rode North Creek, River Loop, Bridges, Rock Garden Rabbit Ears and  Roller Coaster and Moonscape.  All are dry and trimmed.  Thanks to  all you frond-trimming trail gnomes out there!  Jeff White has added a new  section on the first Rabbit Ear, lots of fun.

The rock layed down last workday on  Rock Garden is holding up beautifully.  This trail is as good as it has  ever been.

It apparently has only been  sprinkling at Alafia with all these rains, as the wet areas on River Loop are  not wet enough to stick to your tires (except one short section) and there is  no mud at the planks on Rock Garden.  The river is running high, so make  sure you dive in at the end of your ride.  The river view on River Loop is  about 6 feet deep, perfect for diving in.

Julianne"

It aint sweet right now but does make a nice "Hike & Bike" trail.

Be warned.

Gatorback is in rough shape, but it is rideable. Moonscape was awesome today, finally dried out enough.

My middle ring was totally shot and needed to be replaced.  if you know me, you know that means it will last another month or so at least in my book.  Long story short, I rode all of alafia 2 weeks in a row in big ring only.  That includes making the g-back switchback climb to the wood and the m-scape climb up the swithbacks as well as the cement climb before doom.  It sucked and I kinda remember crying in some weeds somewhere out there.
